As third molars are frequently impacted or erupt only partially, the may be associated with a wide range of pathological conditions. An ability to predict the evolution of a third molar in growing patients can be of great help in planning orthodontic, surgical and prosthetic treatment. The aim of this paper is to review the various methods of predicting third molar eruption published in the literature.
