Primary Health Care: l’importanza della formazione nel contesto universitario e le prospettive future

The demographic profile of the world population is evolving towards progressive aging and a growth in health needs, increasingly highlighting the importance of investing in Primary Health Care (PHC). With the current healthcare model, approaching patient by specific pathology or discipline, inefficiencies have been generated due to a lack of communication and integrated management of chronicity. Furthermore, a healthcare system with solid PHC strategies increases citizens’ trust in the health sector and enhances the resilience of the whole system. Likewise, it remains important to invest in education: a new culture of health must be spread, which is not limited to the clinical approach of diagnosis and therapy. Healthcare professionals must be trained throughout the working life cycle, starting at university courses. Finally, from the pandemic we learned that it is necessary to invest in Public Health, because it is necessary to build dynamic models and mechanisms that connect themselves to the health needs expressed by the populations.
