Transcatheter valve interventions: The point of view of the cardiac surgeon

New percutaneous valve interventions (PVIs), in which heart valve replacement and repair products are delivered to the heart using catheter-based techniques, are under development and initial clinical trials (Table 1). As an addition to existing aortic, mitral and pulmonary balloon dilatation procedures, replacement products to treat aortic and pulmonary valve disease and repair products to treat mitral valve regurgitation are being developed.1-3.
