Short description:
Iron-Driven synaptic remodeling redefines stress anxiety / Moro, A., Santambrogio, P., Levi, S.. - In: TRENDS IN ENDOCRINOLOGY AND METABOLISM. - ISSN 1043-2760. - 37:7(2026), pp. 604-606. [10.1016/j.tem.2026.04.008]
abstract:
: Brain iron dysregulation is linked to stress-related disorders, but its functional role remains opaque. Wang et al. define 'ferroplasticity', a form of experience-dependent, iron-mediated synaptic remodeling driven by a glucocorticoid-transferrin receptor 1-α-synuclein axis. This positions iron as an active signal rewiring emotional circuits in anxiety, with profound implications for a growing global health crisis.
