The leading theoretical proposal of today is the one that does nothing other than to suggest that only
historians should deal with history. In this paper the author tries to explain the epochal passage that
marked the decline of Geschichtsphilosophie, showing how and why Gorman’s Historical Judgment is a
precious and coherent attestation of this. Beyond this, the author tries to outline a possible paradigm for
a philosophy of history in the ‘strong sense’. To this end the reflections of the historian and philosopher
Reinhart Koselleck (1923-2006) will be an important theoretical reference in order to reformulate a
philosophy of history that does not renounce a holistic vocation while, at the same time, maintaining an
effective balance between history and philosophy.
