EBGI RAPHAEL

Raphael Ebgi is Associate professor in History of Philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophpy, Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, Milan, where he teaches «Philosophy of the Renaissance», and «History of Italian Thought». He has previously been Research Associate at the Università della Svizzera Italiana, Lugano (2108-2020) and at the Jewish Institute of the Freie Universität, Berlin (2012-2018).
He published a three-volume research on the history and philosophy of Italian Humanism. The first volume is entitled: "Giovanni Pico della Mirandola: Mito, Magia, Qabbalah" (with G. Busi, Einaudi 2014); the second: "Umanisti Italiani. Pensiero e Destino" (with M. Cacciari, Einaudi 2016); the third one: "Marsilio Ficino. Anima mundi: scritti filosofici" (Einaudi 2021). He has publihsed as well a book on Marsilio Ficino’s philosophy of pleasure, entitled "Voluptas: La filosofia del piacere nel giovane Marsilio Ficino" (Edizioni della Normale 2019), and the first critical edition of the "De Ente et Uno", a philosophical treatise by Giovanni Pico della Mirandola (Bompiani 2010). He has also worked on the impact of Renaissance Humanism on Italian and European cultural history, as well as on the encounter between the Humanistic tradition and Jewish mysticism. His last books are: "Sette. Le avventure di un simbolo (Mulino 2023) and "Il giovane meraviglioso: vita di Pico della Mirandola" (Einaudi 2024).
He is a member of the scientific committee of the “Centro internazionale di Cultura Giovanni Pico della Mirandola”, and of the "Edizione Nazionale delle Opere di Giovanni Pico della Mirandola". He is member of the steering committee of the Journal "Rinascimento". He is head of the San Raffaele unit for the PRIN 2022 PNRR project: "Mother, Stepmother, Sorceress: Images of Nature in Renaissance Europe".
