FILIPPI MASSIMO

Massimo Filippi is currently Full Professor of Neurology, Director of the Residency School in Neurology, President of the Bacherlor’s Degree in Physiotherapy, and Principal Investigator of the Neurotech Hub at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University. He i salso Director of the Neurology and Neurorehabilitation Units, the MS Center, the Center for Alzheimer’s and Related Diseases, the Neurophysiology Service, and the Neuroimaging Research Unit at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, Milan.
His research activity has always focused on the definition of the mechanisms leading to progressive accumulation of irreversible physical disability and cognitive impairment in various neurological conditions.
Prof. Filippi is author of over 1790 papers published in peer-reviewed journals, he edited several international volumes; he is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Neurology, Associate Editor of Human Brain Mapping, Radiology, and Neurological Sciences, member of the Editorial Boards of many international scientific journals, and reviewer on a regular basis for several others in the neurology and neuroimaging fields, as well as for many Governmental Organizations and private Foundations. He is very often requested as speaker and/or chairman in national and international neurological congresses.
In 2001, Prof. Filippi was awarded the Rita Levi Montalcini Prize for his outstanding contributions to the study of MS; in the 2015 Distinguished Dr Luis Barraquer Ferré Lecture at the LXVII Congress of the Spanish Society of Neurology (SEN); in 2022, 100 Eccellenze Italiane (Associazione Liber). According to the study published in Front Neurol 2022;13:845539, he is the 1st of the top 10 most influential authors in MS research (1945-2021) as for number of total citations (39,896) and number of publications (522).
