The theme of metaphor and synesthesia was imprisoned into a tropological classification by the epistemic desire to find a perfect language, without ambiguity. However, as Blumenberg reconstructs, both philosophy and science are not able to delete the interpretative nuance whereby one thinks and acts. This nuance is connected to visions of the world expressed by the use of concealed metaphors. Language itself is not patologically affected by polysemy. On the contrary, polysemy constitutes the treasure of the possibilities language offers. In this paper, we will see how metaphor and synesthesia are used in symbolic poetry, especially in Baudelaire and Rimbaud.
