Circadian clock gene Per3 variants influence the postpartum onset of bipolar disorder

Postpartum depression can mark the onset of bipolar disorder. The coding region of Per3 gene contains a variable-number tandem-repeat polymorphism, which has been shown to influence bipolar disorder onset and to affect breast cancer risk.
